A short history of Lord Cheyne, Lord Shorland, and of the murder of Mr. Thomas Arden, of Faversham; and also of the persons concerned in the tragedy of Arden, [1829].

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a historical account of the murder of Thomas Arden of Faversham, taken "as the best I could gather from the Antient people (both oral and written) as I travelled through the East of Kent, and the Isle of Sheppy." The volume begins with a biography of Sir Thomas Cheyne (1485?-1558), praising his persecution of Catholic monks, narrating several anecdotes of his adventures, and establishing his connection to Thomas Arden. This biography is followed by one of Lord Shoreland, a friend of Thomas Arden who helped him purchase the Abbey of Faversham. The remainder of the volume consists of brief biographies and anecdotes of the other persons involved in the murder, including Arden and his wife Alice; her lover Thomas Mosby; his sister and accomplice Susan; her lover Michael Sanderson; and those accused of murder or attempted murder, John Green; George Bradshaw; William Blackbourne; and Adam Foule. Throughout, the writer makes references to the difficulty he had in extracting this material, and to comparisons with Holinshed's account and with the play upon the same subject, often pointing out their inaccuracies.
